Annual Milky Way Cabaret Show

Milky Way Cabaret 2017

Milky Way Cabaret began in 2013 as a small novelty show on the request of one of the organizers of the Second Life Science Fiction Convention. Despite neither Immy nor I having any experience putting on a dance show let alone choreographing, the show was a surprise success.

By 2014, we were ready to kick the show up a notch. Both Immy and Tray had lost parents that year to cancer so this time it was personal. The outpouring of support we received from the SciFi community was amazing and by the end of our run, we had accounted for over a million lindens in donations to the Relay For Life.

In 2015, we decided to ask for help from the dance community as the show had just gotten to big for Immy and I to handle alone. The show was again, a resounding success with some people coming to see it three or four times. In 2015 and 2016 we were responsible for nearly half of the donation total for the entire convention.

2017 is looking to be our biggest and best ever. We have been given an entire sim to utilize so there won’t be nearly as many issues with capacity or performance.

As mentioned, the Sci Fi convention is a flagship RFL (Relay For Life) event and the Milky Way Cabaret is a major part of that effort.

Each year has a theme that drives the sim designs and to some extent, the exhibitor’s booth design. Where this event differs from most large RFL events is that it is not primarily focused on retail. This is a true fan focused experience. This year’s convention theme is “Elements”.

Phoenix Performance – January 14th, 2017

With a much needed break and enjoying the holiday’s .. The Phoenix Dance Team were back in full force for their opening show for 2017. Some directors honored the late George Michael with a dance that moved many in the audience.

To start the night off.. Ray took to the stage with his dance done to one of George Michael’s song.. Monkey. Joining him were fellow dancers JP and Zach.

Many in the dancing community knew of our next guest, Dragon McMaster’s from LaOro Theater. He’s been busy with RL and we have all missed him and his talent greatly. We were honored to see his talent this night as he came to our stage to perform “Cuban Pete”. Fellow dancers  Ame, Baby, Deny, Jo, Gunner, Melvis, Seb, Zach, Art, Tehya, Winnie and  SoCo were having a great time dancing with him once again.

Seb was up next dancing to the song “Bad Boy Good Man” which fits him so well and to a T. Set in a ballroom setting, he was joined on stage with ladies Lily, Litz, Nadi and Sassy. Each lady had their chance to dance with the Bad Boy, not that any of them had any complaint with that.

SoCo was up after Seb, redoing her dance With Or Without You by Amy Lee. Set in a bar setting, the moves and shirtless men were quite a pleasure to watch. Dubbed as the choreographer who has been helping the Phoenix Dance Team have sex since 2015, this dance didn’t fall short from that title. Joining her on the stage was Lily, Litz, Nadi, Sassy, Hunter, Jack, JP, Ray, Seb, Seth and Troy

Melvis was our next guest for the night and boy did he bring it. With so many of us LOVING Star Wars, Melvis didn’t hold back with his dance. An 11min dance, all done to certain scenes from Star Wars, it was such a pleasure and enjoyment to watch. With Melvis being Darth Vadar, he was joined by fellow castmates Princess Leia, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, C3PO and so much more. Joining him on stage was Ame, Baby, Dia, Litz, Mona, Nadi, SoCo, Andy, Gunner, Hunter, Ray, Seb and Troy

Lily never ceases to amaze us by what she brings to the stage every week, and well this week was no exception. She brought to life the song “I Want to Break Free” by Queen. With curlers and vacuum in hand, she showed us exactly what some of the men of Phoenix do when they have down time. Jack, JP, Seth and Zach showed us just how housework could and can get done in heels.

After the cleaning was done and the supplies put away, Zach and Ame were up next. Dancing to the song “A Different Corner” by George Michael, this dance moved you in such a way that you could feel the connection and bond that they both share with one another. From the colors, to the movement, this dance left us in such awe of how it was performed.

Mr Tray Porthos.. what to say about this man and his extreme talent that he brings everytime he steps on the stage. With me bouncing in my seat like a little kid waiting for cake when his intro music began, I couldn’t wait to see what he was doing. Dancing to the song “Sprach Zarathustra/Uptown Funk” a custom mix of his, he was joined up on the stage with Lily, Jack, Seth and Troy. Speechless.. that’s all I can say.. utterly speechless.

Ending the night was SoCo… bring to life the song “One More Try” by George Michael she left man in the audience in tears as the feel from the song along with the movements was shown. Dancing on the stage with her was JP, Lily and Ame.
